Ease of access to be created in and around Grassy Park

The City of Cape Town’s Transport Directorate is set to commence with the construction of non-motorised transport (NMT) facilities in Grassy Park on 18 August 2021, for a period of 15 months, pending inclement weather and unforeseen delays.
The objective of this project is to create a safe and convenient environment for commuters, pedestrians and cyclists while at the same time, ensuring universal access and design for pedestrians with special needs, to achieve more effective non-motorised mobility.
Work will take place from Monday to Friday between 07:30 and 17:00.
The works will entail:
Construction of walking lanes
Accommodation of vehicular traffic, cyclists and pedestrians
Earthworks and verge levelling
Implementation of hard and soft landscaping and improving pedestrian environment
The works will take place along a number of roads including the following:
Lake Road reserve between 7th and 8th Avenue
Rooikrans Avenue reserve between Italian Road and Perth Road
Zeekoe Road reserve between 5th Avenue and Fisherman’s Walk
2nd Avenue reserve between Lake Road and Old Strandfontein Road
3rd Avenue reserve between Lake Road and Old Strandfontein Road
4th Avenue reserve between Lake Road and Old Strandfontein Road
Klip Road reserve between St. Louis Way and Buck Road and/or Stanley Road
5th Avenue reserve between Atkins Road and Kudu Avenue
Victoria Road reserve between Klip Road and 8th Avenue
Victoria Road reserve between 8th Avenue and Rooikrans Avenue.
It must be noted that:
Traffic may have to be deviated onto a half-width roadway or single lane route past or through the construction areas while work is ongoing
There is a possibility of night work and work on weekends and public holidays
Appropriate signage will be in place and road users are requested to please adhere to the signage displayed over this period
These facilities are implemented to provide improved access, but residents can also look forward to an aesthetically pleasing environment, once completed, which will contribute to a sense of pride and place.
